Friday's CIS Football League

Gary Ross is ending his four-year Canadian Interuniversity Sport football career in style.

The St. Francis Xavier wide receiver had 11 receptions for 156 yards while breaking two Atlantic University Sport records Friday as the X-Men beat the Mount Allison Mounties 31-18. Ross surpassed Acadia's Grant Davy as the AUS all-time career leader in receptions (172) and receiving yards (2,582).

Two StFX touchdowns early in the third quarter were the difference in the game, as the X-Men were able to hold onto the lead en route to their sixth win of the season.

Elsewhere in the CIS, Saint Mary's beat Acadia 21-7 and Saskatchewan hammered Regina 42-17.

At Antigonish, N.S., James Green rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown. He became StFX's all-time career leading rusher with 2,304 yards over five years. He surpassed the previous career record of 2,241 yards set by Marvin McCooty in 2006.

The X-Men finished the season with a 6-2 record, second in the AUS. The X-Men will host the Acadia Axemen (2-6) on Nov. 7 at in the AUS semifinal, with the winner advancing to meet the first place Saint Mary's Huskies (7-1).

Mount Allison finished 0-8.

Quarterback Steve Snyder was 14-for-18 for 207 passing yards for StFX. Jake Hotchkiss was 22-for-43 for 308 yards at for Mount Allison.

Saint Mary's 21 Acadia 7

At Halifax, Saint Mary's kicker Justin Palardy booted four field goals as the Saint Mary's Huskies downed the Acadia Axeman.

Palardy currently leads the CIS in scoring with 96 points.

Saint Mary's outgained Acadia 429-191 in total net yards.

Saskatchewan 42 Regina 17

At Regina, Jeff Hassler had three rushing touchdowns to help the Saskatchewan Huskies clinch first place in the Canada West conference.

Hassler, a first-year running back, came into the game with just 143 rushing yards on the season but exploded for 224 yards in the win.

The victory gives Saskatchewan (7-1) home field advantage through the Hardy Cup.

The Rams (3-5) finished out of the playoffs for the first time since 2005.
