Manitoba Bisons forfeit two football wins due to eligibility violation
EDMONTON - The Canada West Universities Athletic Association overturned the results of three Manitoba Bisons games Tuesday due to an eligibility violation.
The CWUAA announced Manitoba used an ineligible player in its first five games of the season. As a result, games won by the Bisons over UBC and Alberta have been ruled as losses with the opponents now being given credit for victories.
A third game at Simon Fraser has been declared "no contest" because both teams used an ineligible player. The final scores for the two overturned games are recorded as 1-0 forfeits by Manitoba. All statistics for the three contests will remain intact.
The Bisons had finished third in the Canada West standings with a 5-3 record.
As a result of the rulings, the Canada West playoff structure will change, with Regina replacing Manitoba and facing Saskatchewan on Saturday. Alberta visits Calgary in the other post-season contest.
