The stage is set for perhaps the most anticipated Labour Day battle between the Toronto Argonauts and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in years. After 4-14 and 3-15 seasons to forget, Toronto has turned things around this year thanks to new head coach Jim Barker and star running back Cory Boyd, who I picked as one of my top-five players currently in the CFL in an interview with Shutdown Corner's Doug Farrar. The Argonauts are 5-3 heading into this game and look set for a run to the playoffs. They'll look to continue their resurgence with a win today over their Southern Ontario rivals.
In Hamilton, the Tiger-Cats' on-field success has perhaps been overshadowed by the conflict over their proposed new stadium. On the field, though, the team's been playing pretty well, and they sit at 4-4 heading into today's clash. Quarterback Kevin Glenn has been terrific, wide receiver Arland Bruce III (pictured above) has been unstoppable and Canadian slotback Dave Stala has made a name for himself as well this season. There are rumours that Bruce and Stala may combine for a wacky touchdown celebration today, but Hamilton will be more concerned about the final result on the scoreboard than if their players make highlight reels. They'll have the home-field advantage at Ivor Wynne Stadium, and they'll be eager for a victory that would tie them with Toronto for second in the East. Come join the Yahoo! Sports Canada staff at 2:30 Eastern for a live blog of the game!
