DTotD: Shanghai Shenhua player sent off for dragging ‘injured’ opponent from field

Since the departure of Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka, Shanghai Shenhua have been in financial meltdown, and have been hovering above the Chinese Super League relegation zone since starting the season with a six-point deficit for their part in a match-fixing scandal.

On Wednesday evening, they were 1-0 down to fellow strugglers Changchun Yatai when Australian midfielder Matt McKay went down clutching his stomach, in what appeared to be a cynical attempt to run down the clock.

Brilliantly named Shanghai midfielder Wang Shouting took it upon himself to hurry proceedings along by dragging the play-acting Aussie from the field. He succeeded with his objective, but the referee decided the act of aggressively heaving a potentially injured player from the field was worthy of a second yellow card.

This has been the Dirty Tackle of the Day: a chronicling of unfortunate events.
