Winter Classic champions banner hangs from Caps practice

The Washington Capitals won the Winter Classic. It’s a big freaking deal for them. They’re going to Disneyland! And some people are so excited they decided to hang a banner at Washington’s practice Saturday at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex.

Check out the above sweet sign celebrating Washington’s two points (s/t Nick Vucic). As a secondary banner says ... "AWESOME!!!"

The Verizon Center has been mocked for years for its banners, which at times included ones for Washington Mystics leading the WNBA in attendance. Such banners called the Mystics the WNBA's "Attendance Champions."

But why not start new traditions of celebrating pseudo regular season success?

While winning the Winter Classic is a big deal for maybe a day or two, ultimately it's winning the Stanley Cup that's most important to pretty much everyone in hockey.

Sadly it doesn’t appear a 2015 Winter Classic champions banner will join the ranks of others in the Verizon Center rafters any time in the near future. According to this photo taken by Washington Post Caps writer Alex Prewitt sent to us, the banner was taken down after practice. Sadness.
