Thursday’s Three Stars: Max Pac hat trick; Chris Phillips’ memorable 1,000th game

Getty ImagesNo. 1 Star: Max Pacioretty, Montreal Canadiens

Earning their third straight win, the Canadiens saw Pacioretty notch his first career NHL hat trick during a 4-2 win over the New York Islanders. Pacioretty scored in each period to put him over the 20-goal mark for the first time in his career. It wasn't a memorable win just for Pacioretty's trick, Scott Gomez score his first goal in over a calendar year in the third period.

No. 2 Star: Chris Phillips, Ottawa Senators

Phillips picked a great night to break his 75 game goalless streak. Playing in his 1,000th NHL game, Phillips scored a pair of goals to help power the Senators past the Nashville Predators 4-3 to end their seven-game losing streak. The last time Phillips scored a goal was Nov. 19, 2009 in what was his 800th game. Jason Spezza added three points and Alex Auld stopped 24 shots for Ottawa.

No. 3 Star: Shane Doan, Phoenix Coyotes

Doan's overtime goal 3:05 into the extra frame gave the Phoenix Coyotes a 2-1 win over the Calgary Flames and moved them into the eighth spot in the Western Conference:

Honorable mention: Chris Stewart scored a goal and added an assist and T.J. Oshie netted the only goal in the shootout as the St. Louis Blues got by the New Jersey Devils 4-3. Brian Elliott stopped all 15 shots he faced after relieving Jaroslav Halak late in the second period. St. Louis improved to 11-0-2 against the Eastern Conference this season ... Senators fans gave Mike Fisher a standing ovation in his return to Ottawa:

Scott Hartnell recorded a Gordie Howe Hat Trick and Sergei Bobrovsky made 24 saves as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3. Hartnell celebration after his goal went from a fist-pump to a fight with Dion Phaneuf ... Brad Richards' goal 2:37 into overtime gave the New York Rangers a 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning:

Winnipeg scored twice in 12 seconds late in the second period and Bryan Little's goal in the shootout was the winner as the Jets beat the Washington Capitals 3-2. Ondrej Pavelec made 32 saves and Dustin Byfuglien had two points, including this goal from center ice that dipped its way past Tomas Vokoun:

Scott Clemmensen stopped 22 shots and Florida got goals from Mike Santorelli, Sean Bergenheim and Matt Bradley to down the Los Angeles Kings 3-1. The victory was the Panthers' first against the Kings since Nov. 27, 2002 ... Milestone games for Mike Richards (500th) and Keaten Ellerby (100th) ... Henrik Sedin shook off an ankle injury to play in his 553rd NHL game and scored a goal while brother Daniel chipped in two points as the Vancouver Canucks downed the Minnesota Wild 5-2. Cory Schneider made 22 saves for his fifth straight win ... Jamie Benn scored twice and Kari Lehtonen stopped 26 shots as the Dallas Stars defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-2.

Did you know? The Dallas Stars are 16-0-0 when leading after a two periods, good enough for first overall in the NHL. (AP)

Dishonorable mention: Kurtis Foster was ejected early in the third period for this board of Chris Porter:

Something's not right here... 75 game goalless streak broken in his 1000th game.. the last goal being scored in his.. 800th game? My maths would say that's a 200 games without a goal. ... But maybe that's just me.

His last 2 goal game was in his 800th game. It's a typo.

"The last time Phillips scored a goal was Nov. 19, 2009 in what was his 800th game" No, that's the last time he scored 2 goals in a game... Last goal was Feb 26, 2011, making his (now-ended) drought shorter than Gomez's.

Since when is a 75 game drought shorter than a 54 game drought dumb dumb

MaxPac scored three goals, but everybody's talking about the guy who scored one...

Foster hit wasn't worth 5 minutes after seeing it...then I heard the announcers in the video explain why it was a major and now it makes sense.

Dishonorable Mention for Dominic Moore's cheap shot to Ruslan Fedetenko. Feds probably will be out for a while with a concussion. You think Moore would know better considering what happened to his brother years ago......

@Mathieu ... Hats off to Max but the reason why everyone are speaking of that one goal instead Max's 3 is that everyone knows that goal was worth much more ... more than 7 million to be precise. ;P

Yes, I know. I just wanted to point out the irony of the situation... XP

"Winnipeg scored twice in 12 seconds late in the second period..." Nope, they scored twice late in the third period, which is what made the game so dramatic. They flat out stole two points there.

The stats don't lie: The Habs are undefeated this year when Gomez scores...

Suck it Pheneuph!!!! I know fans from other teams despise Scott Hartnell but secretly you would kill to have him on your team. He was everywhere last night. He was a force and the leafs had no answer for him.
      • FavreRules 3 months ago
Sure buddy. that is why Phaneauf landed 2-3 good punches to Hartnells 0...Win Phaneauf!
      • saucehead09 3 months ago
2-3 good punches? where? You're delusional..only shot that mattered though is the one that ended up in the back of the net!
      • Potvinsux 3 months ago
Flyersmikey is right. I despise Hartnell but would love him if he was on the Rangers. He is just one of those players that you hate if he is on any other team but love if he is on yours.

Gomez should be the #1 star.

Beninati's shouting response to Buff's center ice goal scared the crap out of me lol. Didn't expect to be yelled at when that found a way into the back of the net.

So the last time Phillips scored a goal was during his 800th game. Let me know if my math is right here guys. 1000th game, last scored during 800th game. 1000 minus 800 = 75 game goalless streak.

-Phillips picked a great night to break his 75 game goalless streak. Um Sean, the Canucks are 22-0-0 after last night... and I'm pretty sure there's another team that's better than Dallas's mark too.

"The Dallas Stars are 16-0-0 when leading after a two periods, good enough for first overall in the NHL."

Vancouver and Boston are both 22-0-0 and Washington is 17-0-0 when leading after 2

Wow, classic. Everyone jumps on Ovechkin when he barely leaves his feat due to the impact of a hit, but when Antropov does it, no one says anything. Go back and look at the replay, left his feet and hit Halpern in the numbers right into the Winnipeg bench in last nights' game. He better get Shanabanned.
