Sean Couturier reportedly out for series with upper-body injury

The Philadelphia Flyers began the third period of Game 1 against the Washington Capitals down 1-0 and without center Sean Couturier. The 23-year-old pivot was absent from their bench after a second period hit from Alex Ovechkin.

As you see, Couturier got up favoring his left arm and went straight to the locker room to get checked out.  Ovechkin was not penalized on the play.

Couturier was ruled out of the game and will be re-evaluated on Friday. But it sounds like bad news is coming.

Couturier’s absence would be a huge loss for the Flyers, who need to him to not only contribute on the penalty kill, but also help shut down Ovechkin, a task he’s been pretty successful at.

Game 2 is Saturday night.
