Reading RoyalsWhat you see above won't force you to adjust the color on your computer monitors like the Rockford Ice Hogs' Mexican fiesta jerseys, but they might give you a bit of a patriotic feeling if you're reading this as a citizen of the United States.
With Veterans Day celebrations going on this weekend, the ECHL's Reading Royals have gotten into the spirit of celebrating the good ole U-S-of-A and are honoring the men and women who have served the nation's military with what looks like three pieces of fabric taken from the closet of "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and sewn together into a hockey jersey.
The Royals, an affiliate of the Washington Capitals, will wear the jerseys for two games this weekend with an auction taking place after Sunday's tilt versus the Trenton Titan and proceeds going to benefit local veterans groups.
But Reading isn't the only ECHL team celebrating America's veterans this weekend.
Saturday night is "Superhero Night" as the Toledo Walleye host the Wheeling Nailers. Fans can dress up as anyone from Superman to The Hulk to Captain America. If it's the man also known as Steve Rogers that you choose, your outfit might look similar to what the Walleye will be wearing on the ice:
Like Reading's uber-patriotic jerseys, Toledo will also be auctioning these off benefiting the Heroes in Action and Wounded Warrior Project.
If there only were a way for Toledo's goaltenders to don Captain America-themed pad sets like Chris Mason has done with his in the past then the entire get-up might be Hall of Fame worthy.
