Peter Skudra, KHL coach, does walk of shame after ejection (Video)

Hey, remember Peter Skudra? Sure, we all do!

He was the backup goalie who bounced from the Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks in the NHL from 1997 to 2003. He also was famously name-checked by Ray Romano’s “SportsCenter” anchor on SNL: “Penguin goalie Peter Skudra says, 'Hey! Try not to shoot that puck up my pooper!’”

Skudra’s now the coach for the KHL’s Torpedo Novgorod and, well, he and the referee had a slight disagreement towards the end of their game with Severstal on Tuesday.

With four seconds left in overtime, right before the shootout, Skudra said the wrong thing moments after Krill Knyazev was given a high-sticking penalty for Torpedo. Before the faceoff, the referee signaled that someone was being ejected from the game, and that someone was the Torpedo coach.

Skudra put his hands to the heavens in exasperation. He stepped from behind the bench and gave his players some last-minute (literally!) instructions for the shootout. He signaled once again to the game officials before walking off the bench …

… straight through the opposing players’ bench, which is apparently the only exit from the Torpedo bench. He walked right in front of them, even lifting one of the Sevestral player’s sticks to clear his path. He then walked around the boards, checked to see the end of OT, and then disappeared into the bowels of the arena.

No word if he pulled a Bobby Valentine and returned in disguise. If he did, he would have seen Torpedo win in the shootout, 3-2.
