P.K. Subban won the Norris Trophy, according to NHL Awards leak
The NHL has made a mess out of its postseason awards thanks to the lockout. There’s no Las Vegas extravaganza (hence, no Nickelback), as the awards will instead be handed out on two television specials on Friday and Saturday night.
One imagines every nominee will not be present at this awards presentation, which will likely have the pomp and circumstance of the draft lottery selection. The winner, however, might be there or appear via remote feed to give a pithy acceptance speech for their half-an-award. (#asterisk)
Hence, one assumes leaks will happen leading up the NHL Awards being announced.
Hence, Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet has learned that P.K. Subban of the Montreal Canadiens has bested Kris Letang and Ryan Suter to win the 2012-13 Norris Trophy at the NHL’s top defenseman.
Confirmed word out of Montreal and NY is Canadian P.K Subban will be announced during Cup final as the winner of #NHL 2013 Norris trophy.

Subban topped NHL defensemen in scoring, recording 38 points (11 goals, 27 assists) in 42 games as the Canadiens won the Northeast Division crown and posted the League's fourth-best record. The 23-year-old Toronto native also led defensemen in power-play scoring with 26 points (seven goals, 19 assists), helping Montreal post the League's fifth-best success rate with the man advantage (20.7%). Subban ranked second on the Canadiens in points, plus-minus (+12) and average ice time per game (23:14).
It was a star-making year for Subban after his contract squabble with the Canadiens, as he exhibited a maturity and two-way game that impressed nearly every game.
It’s a bit of a surprise that he’d win the Norris, however, as Ryan Suter of the Minnesota Wild seemed to have the momentum late in the voting process; and one assumed that Subban and Letang would split the Eastern Conference vote.
But according to the leak, it’s Subban.
You know, the guy who is entering the last year of his two-year deal.
Could have had him at 5 years at $5 million per, Marc Bergevin. Whoops.
