NHL Three Stars: Bobby’s breakaway beats Boston; Koivu KO’s Coyotes; Blues bombard Blackhawks

No. 1 Star: Bobby Ryan, Ottawa Senators

Playing the second half of a home-and-home against Boston, the Senators and Bruins were tied up at 3-3 with 4:35. Then Bobby Ryan did exactly what Bobby Ryan does. He grabbed the puck in the neutral zone and broke free of Boston's defense. One-on-one with Chad Johnson, Ryan went forehand to backhand and scored the eventual game winner, 4-3.

No. 2 Star: Mike Fisher, Nashville Predators

As if Mike Fisher's life needed to get any better; Fisher went out and earned himself a three-point night. Mr. Carrie Fisher (no, not that Carrie Fisher), having already assisted on Nashville's first goal, broke the 1-1 tie on the power play catching the Kings out of position and goaltender Ben Scrivens doing yoga. With 36 seconds left, LA pulled Scrivens and Jeff Carter scored from the top of the circle, tying the game. A mere 10 seconds after that, Fisher nets the game winner. Nashville wins 3-2.

No. 3 Star: Saku Koivu, Anaheim Ducks

Koivu started the scoring for Anaheim with a short-handed goal at the end of the first period. He then assisted on an Andrew Cogliano goal to give the Ducks a 2-0 lead. Anaheim carried the lead well into the third period but with less than five minutes to go Phoenix tied it up. The game went into overtime and Koivu potted the 3-2 OT winner, his third point of the evening, less than a minute in.

Honorable mention: Carey Price stopped 23 of 24 shots in regulation and overtime, and all three Tampa Bay shooters in the Habs 2-1 (SO) win over the Lightning ... After missing 11 games with a herniated disc, Henrik Zetterberg played 22:43 and scored a power play goal in Detroit's 4-3 victory against Florida (nice try on getting more HBO face-time, Panthers). Pavel Datysuk added to two assists. Florida's Sean Bergenheim scored two goals in the loss ... Seth Jones and Patrick Hornqvist had two points each for Nashville in 3-2 win over LA ... Cody Ceci and Cory Conacher were the only Senators to record a multipoint game. Bruins' emergency call-up David Warsofsky scored his first NHL goal ... Travis Zajac's face didn't score the 2-1 game winner for the Devils against the Islanders, his shoulder did:

The Ducks second line of Koivu, Andrew Cogliano and Daniel Winnik and second defensive pairing of Cam Fowler and Ben Lovejoy were all plus-3 and combined for 8-of-9 points. The Coyotes backup Thomas Greiss started and stopped all but three of 41 shots. I have to do it - [Phoenix's] Hanzal, he's so hot right now:

All three of Philly's goals were scored on the power play. Steve Mason faced 19 Edmonton shots total between regulation, overtime and the shootout. He gave up two quick goals to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Taylor Hall in the first and didn't give up another goal until midway through the third period. Wayne Simmons, Claude Giroux, Scott Hartnell and Jakub Voracek earned two-points each yet all ended up on the minus-side ... The St. Louis Blues came back three times against the Blackhawks and eventually won in a shoot-out, 6-5. Patrick Sharp had a monster night yesterday so why not keep the happy train rolling. His only goal against the Blues was ridiculous:

Patrick Kane and Vladimir Tarasenko posted a goal and two assists for their respective teams in St. Louis' 6-5 comeback-shootout victory. There were waaay too many good goals from this game to post here. Check 'em out by going here. BUT, I have just one more brilliant goal this time from the shoot-out. Take it away Mr. Tarasenko:

Did You Know? The Ducks have won 10 straight games and have yet to lose in regulation at home.

Dishonorable mention: Tampa Bay snaps five-game win streak in loss to Montreal ... Dustin Brown and Justin Williams were held point-less and both minus-two against Predators ... Key players scratched before Boston/Ottawa game: Dennis Seidenberg (MCL/ACL tear), Carl Soderberg (concussion), Zdeno Chara (flu-unconfirmed), Jason Spezza (lower-body, not related to previous back issues) and Chris Phillips (injured blocking shot). Tuukka Rask was pulled in the second period after giving up a short-handed goal to Zack Smith in favor of backup Chad Johnson. Boston defenseman Torey Krug was a minus-3. The Bruins would have been up 4-3 had this goal not been disallowed:

Surprise scratches for the NY/NJ bout: Anton Volchenkov and John Tavares ... The Ducks allowed Phoenix's Mike Robero to tie the game with 0:44 seconds left in the third ... Tonight was supposed to be redemption night for Ilya Bryzgalov against the Flyers. His team didn't help him much giving up the lead twice and eventually losing 4-3 in a shootout ... The Blackhawks held a 2-goal lead three times during the game.
