Mark Zengerle launches over goalie for spectacular goal (Video)

Goalies can be aggressive little creatures. Richard Bachman, the best pro netminder to share a name with a Stephen King non de plume, is no different.

A goalie for the Oklahoma City Barons, the Edmonton Oilers’ AHL affiliate, Bachman saw Mark Zengerle of the Grand Rapids Griffins streak after a loose puck down the right wing.

Bachman left his crease to defend the play, but Zengerle wouldn’t be denied: He jumped over the outstretched goalie and scored into a wide open net to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead in the first period on Friday night. They went on to win the game, 5-2.

It was a heck of a play by Zengerle, an undrafted free agent signed out of the University of Wisconsin. It was his second goal in 21 games for the Detroit Red Wings’ affiliate.

He also scored the game-winner in the Big 10 hockey tournament as well. Sure, it’s no “barrel roll goal” as the Griffins called the tally from last weekend, but it was still spiffy.
