Ian White arrested on several weapons charges
When Ian White’s name is in the news, what’s your first assumption? That somebody had a few injuries on the blueline and poof, Ian White materializes on a PTO in another stop in his journeyman career?
Perhaps. What you probably don’t assume is that his name is in the news for having been arrested by Winnipeg police on several weapons charges.
White faces charges of careless use or storage of a firearm or prohibited device, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in an unauthorized place, unauthorized importing of a prohibited or restricted firearm and breach of recognizance.
He was arrested for impaired driving in 2005 and charged with driving while disqualified after Toronto police stopped him for not wearing his seatbelt before a Leafs' game in 2006.
According to Canada's Criminal Code, White faces a maximum of two years in prison for each careless use charge, up to five years in prison for the unauthorized possession charge, up to five years in prison for possession a firearm in an unauthorized place, up to five years in prison for unauthorized importing of a firearm and up to four years in prison for a breach of recognizance.

White played 503 games in the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes, San Jose Sharks and Detroit Red Wings. His last stops were a pair of PTOs in the AHL with the P-Bruins and Milwaukee Admirals.
For what it’s worth, White took 967 shots in his career. Quite the shooter.
