Say goodbye to hairy Brent Burns on Nov. 1 (but for a good cause)

You might know Brent Burns as a San Jose Shark defenseman turned forward. Others may know him as the six-foot-five, homeless-looking dude walking around the streets of San Jose, unaware he’s a professional hockey player.

Burns’ facial follicle frenzy has been growing for some time now, as we documented last season when his 2013 headshot was released; but, like all good things, it's time for it to come to an end. For a very good cause.

On Nov. 1, Burns will shave his head and his face all to benefit Defending the Blueline, which helps provide “free equipment for military kids, hockey camps, special events, and financial assistance for registration fees and other costs associated with hockey” and the Katie Moore Foundation, named after the the late wife of New York Rangers forward Dominic Moore, which is “committed to funding research to advance cancer care and providing resources and hope to individuals and families battling rare diseases."

From the Sharks:

From now until October 31, the Sharks Foundation will be accepting donations with the goal of raising $5,000 for each of these worthwhile charities. Fans who donate $50 or more will receive a signed “before/after” photo of Burns, while the Top 3 donors will have the chance to meet him and witness the shaving in person. Giving totals will be updated daily on the Sharks Foundation’s website and social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram) so fans can track the progress of this special fundraiser.

If interested, you can go here to donate.

One member of the Sharks will have the honors of helping Burns’ wild locks disappear. We're curious what kind of celebration Joe Thornton would have if he's the one to do it and pulls off the perfect shave.
