Dion Phaneuf drills Kevan Miller from behind: how many games? (Video)

As if Brendan Shanahan didn't already have a full plate dealing with Saturday night's Bruins-Penguins game, Dion Phaneuf will likely be added to his list of hearings this week.

During Boston's 3-2 win over Toronto Sunday night, the Maple Leafs captain laid a hit on Kevan Miller of the Bruins that will likely require some discipline:

Somehow no penalty was called on the play. The Boston Globe's Amalie Benjamin Tweeted that Bruins head coach Claude Julien "did not seem worried about Miller" and that the rookie defenseman is likely going on their trip to Calgary.

Looking at the replay, Phaneuf doesn't speed up toward Miller, but he does see his numbers the entire time. Miller also doesn't make any sudden movements right before the hit to change his body position. In that instance, as Shanahan constantly says, the onus is on Phaneuf to minimize the contact, like tying him up along the boards instead.

At least while Shanahan's busy figuring out the discipline for James Neal and Shawn Thornton, he'll have a lay-up mixed in.

UPDATE: Bob McKenzie Tweets that Phaneuf will have a phone hearing with the NHL on Tuesday.
