Denmark's Jesper Jensen stretchered off after brutal hit in worlds (Video)

Jesper B. Jensen, a 24-year-old defenseman for Denmark, was stretched off the ice with his neck immobilized after a brutal hit along the boards in an IIHF world championship preliminary round game in Moscow on Tuesday.

Jensen, who plays for Jokerit in the Kontinental Hockey League, played the puck in his own end as Andres Ambuhl of Switzerland plowed into him on the forecheck.

Jensen crouched down slightly to play the puck; Ambuhl connected with his right shoulder and drove the Denmark defenseman’s head into the glass. Jensen fell to the ice, his stick slipping out of his hand.

There was no penalty called on the play.

Danish team paramedics and arena medical staff put him in a neck brace and then carried him off the ice on a stretcher. TV12 in Sweden reported he was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
