Darnell Nurse tussles with Milan Lucic for first NHL fight (Video)

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse decided to make a splash for his first NHL fight.

The 20-year-old rookie asked hulking Los Angeles Kings winger Milan Lucic to tussle. Nurse stands at 6-foot-4, 213 pounds and Lucic – known as one of the NHL’s top tough guys – is 6-foot-3, 233 pounds.

A video of the fight is above. Nurse seemed to take exception to a big hit by Lucic on teammate Lauri Korpikoski shortly before the fight.

“We were on the penalty kill. The hit on (Korpikoski), it was clean but I think it was pretty big and I tried to stand up for my teammate,” Nurse said.

Said Oilers coach Todd McLellan, "Good for him. He's in the NHL. He's standing his ground against a big, tough guy."

The Oilers lost the game 5-2 at Rexall Place. In 29 games this season, Nurse has two goals and five assists. He’s averaged 21:04 of ice-time per-game.
