Alex Ovechkin dives embarrassingly, draws call vs. Montreal (Video)

Like many NHL players, Alex Ovechkin isn’t above a little embellishment from time to time to get this team a power play. Of course, with Ovie, nothing’s ever subtle, and his dives tend to be a bit more elaborate than others.

Against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night, Ovechkin drew a penalty against P.K. Subban in the period on what was, to put it delicately, a complete and total embellishment. We haven’t seen a Russian go down that dramatically since Finland won in Sochi.

Subban, of course, couldn’t believe he was being whistled for a penalty. At the end of the day, however, we imagine he’d appreciate the craftsmanship Ovechkin put into the dive, having witnessed so much quality work in that field while playing for the Montreal Canadiens.

So when the NHL sees something like this … what happens? Will this be Ovechkin’s first warning under the League’s new crackdown on diving?

If so, will they make it public?
