Falcons, Julio Jones reportedly agree to massive five-year extension

The Atlanta Falcons and Julio Jones reportedly have come to an agreement on a five-year contract extension, first reported by MMQB's Peter King.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported the financial terms first — five years, $71.25 million, with $47 million of it guaranteed. Those numbers exceed the deals signed by franchise-tagged receivers Dez Bryant (five years, $70M, $45 guaranteed) and Demaryius Thomas (five years, $70M, $43.5M) earlier this summer.

That would make Jones the second-highest paid receiver in the NFL behind the Detroit Lions' Calvin Johnson in terms of guaranteed money and average salary per year.

Jones has been injury-prone over his four-year career, missing 15 of 64 regular-season games. But he's the active NFL leader — over even Johnson — at 88.4 receiving yards per game. Last season was Jones' best, catching 104 passes for 1,593 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games.

Jones had been scheduled to enter free agency, or be subject to the franchise tag, after the 2015 regular season.
