Baltimore Ravens may not host the NFL Kickoff because of the Baltimore Orioles

Since 2004, the Super Bowl-winning team has hosted the NFL's Thursday night season opener. The Kickoff game has turned into another night to celebrate the Super Bowl winner, with concerts and a fan festival. But the Baltimore Ravens may not get the same party as the previous winners. The Baltimore Orioles have a 7:05 p.m. game against the Chicago White Sox.

With the two teams sharing parking lots, both playing at the same time is not as workable. The Ravens have tried to come to a compromise, including playing a football-baseball doubleheader.

Moving the NFL game to Wednesday, as the NFL did last year because of the Democratic National Convention, is not an option because of the Rosh Hashanah holiday. If the Orioles won't budge from their start time, another option is to put the Ravens in a starting game on the road, but that's the least desirable option. After all, the Ravens can't unfurl their Super Bowl champions banner or show highlights from the game while in Pittsburgh or New England. Now, the Ravens have to wait and see if the Orioles will play ball.
