Connecticut running back Martin Hyppolite was a passenger in a two-car accident in Durham, N.H., that left one man dead and two others in serious condition.
Hyppolite is listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit of Portsmouth Regional Hospital, according to the Hartford Courant.
The paper also reported that UConn officials had been in touch with Hyppolite’s doctors and said that he could be discharged over the next few days.
The accident occurred on Saturday morning on Route 4 in Durham, near the University of New Hampshire campus. According to police, Ryan Merchant, 22, the driver of the vehicle with Hyppolite, 22, was attempting to pass another vehicle on a two-lane highway when it hit Bruce Larson, 74, head-on. Larson, a judge in New Hampshire, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Associated Press reported that Merchant was in serious condition.
Hyppolite was the backup fullback last season with just 69 yards on 19 carries. He missed all of 2011 with a knee injury.
