Sacramento State kicker upsets Colorado at final gun, is awarded scholarship

    (Associated Press)

In the span of a few minutes, Sacramento State kicker Edgar Castaneda became a legend at his school, and was also given a full-ride scholarship.

Castaneda's 30-yard field goal as time expired lifted FCS member Sacramento State over Pac-12 opponent Colorado 30-28. That's a pretty solid afternoon by itself. Then his day got even better.

Sacramento State coach Marshall Sperbeck announced during his postgame speech that he was giving walk-on Castaneda a scholarship, the Associated Press reported. Sacramento State also announced the news on its Twitter feed. Castaneda was with City College of San Francisco last season, and had never made a game-winning field goal at any level, the AP reported.

"I was relaxed; it was just another kick," Castaneda said, according to the AP. "I was calm."

Sacramento State isn't new to beating Pac-12 teams. It defeated Oregon State in overtime last season. Still, wins like this for a FCS team are worth a pretty nice celebration.
