Mother of Southern Miss’ quarterback arrested for defending her son from mean fans

Things couldn't have gone worse for Southern Miss freshman quarterback Anthony Alford during last Saturday's 45-17 loss to Marshall.

He completed just 9 of 21 passes for 65 yards, was sacked three times and had to leave the game in the third quarter after an ankle injury. Oh, and his mother was arrested for defending her son from all the haters in the crowd.

Lawanda Ann Alford, 38, was arrested by Hattiesburg Police and booked on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

According to the Hattiesburg American, police ordered her from the stands after she got into a loud argument with a fan who was talking smack about her son's play.

It's a wonder she didn't start hitting him with her purse and start yelling at the guy not to talk about her baby like that.

Apparently, this isn't the first time Lawanda Alford had come to the aid of her son. Last spring, she came out of the stands during a state baseball playoff game after her son was ejected for arguing a strike call.

So a word to all you Southern Miss fans out there, make sure you look around before you talk trash about the Golden Eagles' quarterback.
