With 1,547 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns as a true freshman, Georgia running back Nick Chubb was one of 2014’s standout performers in college football.

He even caught the eye of Georgia legend Herschel Walker, the program’s all-time leading rusher.

“This kid came on as a freshman and just think if he had started the whole season, what he would have done. That’s what so amazing,” said Walker, who attended UGA’s spring practice on Thursday.

“One thing I like about him, the game is over, practice is over, and the kid is still out there working out. That’s just the sign of a good athlete. That’s a sign that he’s doing things he needs to get done.”

Walker, the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner, told the Ledger-Enquirer that Chubb’s ability to carry a huge workload was “absolutely amazing.” Chubb had more than 30 carries in three games last season.

Walker, who was able to speak with Chubb for the first time this week, also lauded the Bulldogs’ incredible depth at the position with Keith Marshall and Sony Michel also returning.

“People have totally forgot about Marshall. Marshall is an excellent running back. Then you've got Sony Michel. I'm like guys, You've got a ton of running backs here," Walker said. "But then you've got Chubb, who's not gonna give up the position. He's saying, ‘You know what guys, I'm not gonna carry it 15, I'm gonna carry it 30, if you all can get anything out of that then more power to you.’ I think that's what's amazing."

Georgia is coming off a 10-3 season and will rely heavily on Chubb and its running game in 2015, especially with a new, inexperienced starter at quarterback. The quarterback battle is still wide open with Brice Ramsey, Jacob Park and Faton Bauta all in the mix.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to play their G-Day spring game on April 11.
