Ex-Michigan RB Justice Hayes headed to Southern Miss

Former Michigan running back Justice Hayes is headed to Conference USA.

Hayes, who announced his intent to pursue a graduate transfer in January, posted on Twitter Tuesday that he’s headed to Southern Miss.

The 5-foot-10, 194-pound Hayes ran for 213 yards on 48 carries and had 11 catches for 65 yards in 2014 as a backup for the Wolverines last season. Both totals were career highs. Prior to the 2014 season, Hayes combined for 89 rushing yards on 20 attempts and six catches for 40 yards in 2012 and 2013. Hayes redshirted the 2011 campaign.

At Southern Miss, Hayes joins a crowded backfield that returns its top two rushers from 2014 – Ito Smith (536 yards 2 TDs) and George Payne (271 yards, 6 TDs).

The Golden Eagles went 3-9 in 2014.
