Domestic violence charges against Alabama's Cyrus Jones dropped
The domestic charges against Alabama defensive back Cyrus Jones were dismissed on Friday.
Jones was arrested Wednesday morning on two charges of third degree domestic violence after police determined he “damaged” the alleged victim’s cell phone and “threatened to assault her in front of a witness.” The alleged witness took place late Tuesday night.
Once the charges were further reviewed, the Tuscaloosa Police Department requested the Office of City Attorney dismiss the charges because “Jones attempted to deescalate the situation by contacting” the TPD.
Following Jones’ arrest, Alabama head coach Nick Saban commented on the situation.
“We don’t ever condone any behavior that shows any kind of disrespect,” Saban said. “There was no physical contact in this situation. Once we get the facts, we will take the necessary steps to correct this behavior in the future.”
Jones, who will be a senior in 2015, was one of the main contributors in the Crimson Tide’s defense last season, playing in all 14 games and tied for the team lead with three interceptions.
