ASU LB Davon Durant pleads guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct

Suspended Arizona State linebacker Davon Durant pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct on Thursday.

According to Maricopa County Superior Court, Durant changed his plea to guilty for the lesser charge and other charges will be dropped. Durant was initially arrested on charges of aggravated assault.

Durant, a four-star linebacker from Butler County Community College in Kansas, was arrested March 7 after witnesses said they saw a man striking a woman while the two were sitting in an SUV. Durant’s girlfriend, Kelsi Langely, told the police he hit her in the face and grabbed her around the neck. Police said they observed injuries consistent with the Langley’s claims.

Durant said the altercation was verbal.

A day after the arrest, Langley told ESPN.com she lied about the altercation out of spite and told the police as much. Langley claimed she found text messages from other girls on Durant’s phone and purposely made a scene outside of her apartment to attract attention. Langley and Durant had been dating for a year and a half and Langley followed Durant to Arizona State from Butler Community College.

Even though police acknowledged Langley’s statement, they said because independent witnesses had seen the altercation and there were bruises on Langley’s face and neck, the police had reason to arrest and charge Durant.

Arizona State suspended Durant indefinitely following the arrest and his status remains unchanged. Durant was one of the highest-rated recruits in the Sun Devils’ 2015 class.
