Appeal by C.J. Reavis to VT student-conduct panel denied

Virginia Tech's C.J. Reavis remains dismissed from the school after his appeal to a school student-conduct panel was denied.

The original decision to dismiss Reavis was made on July 9. He had an opportunity to file a written appeal after the decision and it was upheld.

The violation that led to his removal from the school is unknown. His lawyer, Jimmy Turk, hasn't clarified what the issue is and all student-conduct committee issues are confidential. Turk did tell the Roanoke Times that his client hasn't been charged with anything criminally.

"The commonwealth’s attorney wouldn’t touch this with a 10-foot pole," Turk said to the Times. "I feel very confident in telling you that under no circumstances would a prosecutor even remotely consider anything that these allegations involve. Not at all."

Reavis was a potential starter at the rover position in Virginia Tech's defense. Turk also called the decision "tragic" and said the university has walked over him.

"I don't mind telling you, this is an absolutely tragic decision from Virginia Tech," he said. "I think it’s completely unwarranted and is just against any sense of an application of common sense at all to what they found him responsible for. I just think it’s a very reckless and very cavalier decision."

The football team has declined comment about Reavis' issues with the school. When he was dismissed from the school earlier in July, the team said it was a university issue.

Reavis was a freshman in 2014 and played in 12 games. He was a four-star recruit out of high school. He's one of two Virginia Tech players to have had hearings with Virginia Tech's student-conduct panel this offseason. RB Shai McKenzie was cleared of wrongdoing at a hearing in March though he is suspended from the team. He's been ordered to serve 15 days in jail after he was charged with having consensual sex with a minor.

McKenzie was also represented by Turk.
