Highly touted Myles Turner will enter the NBA draft

Texas won't only have to replace its coach this offseason.

The Longhorns also are losing their most talented freshman.

Myles Turner, Rivals.com's No. 9 recruit in the class of 2014, announced Monday via a self-made YouTube video that he is leaving Texas and entering the NBA draft. The freshman forward averaged 10.1 points, 6.5 boards and 2.6 blocks in his lone season with the Longhorns.

“My name is Myles Turner, UT alum, and I’ve decided to forgo my education and submit my name to the 2015 NBA draft,” Turner said in the video. “I love the university, I love the atmosphere here, great education, great people, great basketball program, facilities and it’s given me everything I need to succeed.”

Turner's decision is no surprise considering he arrived at Texas as a projected lottery pick and he remains No. 12 in DraftExpress.com's latest mock draft. He needs to add strength and develop a more refined low-post game, but the 6-foot-11 forward has nice touch from the perimeter, a high release on his jump shot and excellent length and timing as a shot blocker.

Texas fans probably will have mixed feelings looking back at Turner's lone season in Austin.

He had sporadic bursts of brilliance such as a 25-point, 12-rebound performance in a win over Texas Tech, but he lacked consistency during a season in which the Longhorns began in the AP top 10 but barely slipped into the NCAA tournament as a No. 11 seed. Turner didn't score more than 10 points in any of his final eight games at Texas and posted two points, 10 rebounds and four steals in the Longhorns' opening-round NCAA tournament loss to Butler.
