UFC 143 weigh-in: The new Nick Diaz avoids drama, main eventers hit the mark

LAS VEGAS -- UFC 143 has brought us a new Nick Diaz.

That's probably not the case, but the Stockton terror showed some self-control this week at the prefight press conference and again at Friday's weigh-in. No pushing, no shoving. The main event is a go. Both main event fighters checked in at 169 pounds.

Some in the media thought Condit looked a bit drawn and may have had a tough weight cut.

Over the years, Diaz has consistently gotten a little close to his opponent during photo opportunities at pressers and weigh-ins. Frank Shamrock got the finger. He got up close and personal with Evangelista Santos. He got even closer with B.J. Penn. He almost got into it with Paul Daley. Diaz has two postfight dust ups. Once following a KJ Noons victory and the other after his teammate Jake Shields won and was approached in the cage by Jason Miller.

There was a bit of shock in seeing a thinner Roy Nelson. The former 265-pounder, once labeled a bloated truck driver by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, slimmed down to 246.

Well if Diaz loses all of his fanboys will be saying that he was injured. There is always an excuse to be made....

'Some in the media thought Condit looked a bit drawn and may have had a tough weight cut.'
seems like the excuse is already being made for a condit loss

I'm not a Condit fan. I have no faith in him.

"There is always an excuse to be made..."

        Then what's your excuse?

This is going to be a war!!! I love the way both these guys bring it when the y fight. Nobody is going to start going for takedowns and doing lame #$%$ lay'n'pray tactics. I suspect either a Condit TKO or Diaz locks up Condit for a submission. Either way I don't believe it will happen early in the fight, this one will go into deepwater till one of them makes a mistake and the other is able to capitalize. Great main event for a decent card.

Diaz looked nervous during the weigh ins.. Condit has heavier hands and Diaz never backs down from a good stand-up battle.. Condit wins in 2 rounds.

He's not nervous, he's just not used to respecting his opponents. There's no real beef here, it's strange territory for Nick. He even shook hands. what the hell?

Roy looks more than just 20 lbs light, that's great. I was leaning towards him in this fight, now I am leaning a little farther.

I know your looking VERY close at the other guys bodies, too close for comfort. Even your cherished Nickypoo thinks you should BACK OFF pervert!!! "Homeboy4Live#$%^&*$^^% Dude!!" You "LOCO$%&%$#BUTTBANGER#$%^&"

@Robert C- I agree, a lean(as lean as a BIG COUNTRY can get) and mean Nelson is a formidable opponent for any HW. Just needs to watch out for Werdum's BJJ and if he does he should win this fight. Nelson by TKO in the 3rd.

DBAG Riley at it again. I swear this guy tries to get brownie points from his mentor OG NUT. Weren't you claiming to be a doctor? LMAO

From 3 stooges references to racism accusations and now calling us g..ay. Your insult bank is rather elementary, you abecedarian...and you are a P.H.D?.. There's good reason you are on yahoo and not somewhere blogging with fellow Stanford Profs.

Diaz is probably injured, hence the reason he is being quiet and not bashing. Done in one.

Diaz throws punches with no zing or power (This clown actually wanted a Boxing match with Jeff Lacy? I didn't think so). Condit slips the riff raft of pitty patt and lands a hook and good night Stockton.
      • Rob R 3 months ago
        OGs don't say "zing."

I'll bet my chalet in Aspen against your villa in Bali that says Diaz wins. Bet?

Moe are you sure its really a villa and not a few sticks with some leaves over it?

I only put down money on cards that are worth it. Diaz v. Condit alone is worth it. It will be EPIC

Anybody else take one look at Riddle and wonder how the heck he made weight?

        Why are you wondering?

That "Main Event" and Co-Main are a PPV??? Ha.. What a sense of humor. And Dana wonders why people allegedly stream his product. I would never pay for such garbage, so I can see why streaming would be such a problem. County Fair quality fights make money off selling cotton candy. Garbage card.

Poor Condit what did he get him self into

Should be a war with Diaz and Condit. Daiz won't stop coming forward and Condit has power in both hands. I hope it lives up to the hype.
