UFC 143 picks, Vegas-style: Making the hard calls on three big fights

Mandalay Bay Race & Sports Book (Las Vegas Review-Journal)LAS VEGAS -- Cashing UFC tickets may not be an task this weekend. The top of the card at UFC 143 features some difficult calls.

The underdog price of plus-175 on Carlos Condit makes him an inviting play, but Nick Diaz is on a 11-fight win streak dating back to 2007. He's pretty much destroyed or broken every opponent along the way.

On paper, Josh Koscheck (minus-265) should be a bigger favorite over Mike Pierce. So why isn't he? Are the sports books and sharp bettors onto something?

Roy Nelson versus Fabricio Werdum features grappler vs. grappler. Does that mean we don't see any dangerous scenarios unfold on the ground? Can someone pull off a submission? Or do we see a plodding stand-up battle? Werdum is a small favorite at minus-155.

Listen here as Frank Trigg, Yahoo! Sports' Kevin Iole and myself made picks during our "MMA Insiders" show on ESPN1100/98.9 FM in Las Vegas.

At +175 it's hard to pass on Condit here. He and Diaz are closely matched. Anytime you can get almost 2-1 on fighters this close you should jump on the dog. Of course anything can happen but risking $210 to only make a $100 on Diaz when you can risk just $57 to make $100 on Condit is crazy.

the best is not being a bettor... rather just a fan hoping to see a great card ;-) Worse case you lose 50$ and can blame silva for bad matchups

There's a reason Diaz is the heavy favorite. It's because he going to win and win BIG!!!

You are ghey. First of all, you should pay for your feed or chip in with some buddies...second of all, this is a great way of getting your feed shut down. Seems like people that whine about fighters salaries are the same ones stealing their meal ticket.

Condit has a half way decent chance but he has his hands very full with Diaz. I like Big Country over Werdum.

Absolutely Big Country is a huge chance against Werdum, who has no striking ability whatsoever. Big Country is also a black belt JJ so why would anyone think Werdum would dominate on the ground. I see a points win for Nelson.

Curious to see who’s going to win. Seems Diaz behaved himself pretty well for this event. Didn’t see much trash talking like usual. Also looking forward to seeing Roy Nelson vs. Werdum, two different style fighters. It’s time!!!

Riddle's KO was pretty good it was that left hand that did it.
