No. 1 star: Jake DeBrusk, Swift Current Broncos (WHL)

DeBrusk (3G-2A, +3) had the finest hour of his season and a half in Broncos blue and green, leading his team to a 6-4 win over the Regina Pats, who came in riding a five-game win streak and also lead 2-0 after the opening stanza.

The 18-year-old Edmonton native had the primary assist on a goal by Max Lajoie (1G-1A, +2) 65 seconds into the second that got the Swift Current rolling. After Montreal Canadiens draft pick Brett Lernout levelled on a power-play goal, DeBrusk scored the go-ahead goal and then deflated the Pats by striking again with 29 seconds left in the frame. The son of Louie DeBrusk renewed his penchant for the early strike, getting his fourth point of the night on a goal 58 seconds into the third that opened a 5-2 advantage. Regina staged a rally, but DeBrusk mooted it by competing his hat trick with an empty-netter with one second to play.

No. 2 star: Ivan Barbashev, Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL)

The St. Louis Blues prospect and his Wildcats teammates proved a point to their old friend Vladimir Tkachev, spoiling his Quebec Remparts debut with a 4-0 victory. Barbashev (1G-2A, +2) was the best player on the ice, controlling tempo with his playmaking while also winning 62.5 per cent of his faceoffs (15-of-24). The Russian had two assists in the second period on goals from Conor Garland and Éric Léger, then scored a power-play insurance goal with 4:41 left in the third.to seal what presumably was a very satisfying win for the 'Cats. Alex Dubeau made 33 saves for the shutout, including three on Tkachev,

No. 3 star: Matthew Highmore, Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL)

Highmore (2G, +2) delivered the decisive 59th-minute goal and the empty-netter to help the Sea Dogs pull off a 3-1 road win over the Victoriaville Tigres, one of the Q's hottest teams. As a power play expired in the final two minutes, the 18-year-old centre redirected Spencer Smallman's one-timed shot past Tigres goalie Chase Marchand to break a deadlock. Less than a minute later, Highmore, whom the Montreal Canadiens invited to a camp before the season, scored into the open net.

Honourable mention: Tanner Eberle, Moose Jaw Warriors (WHL)

Eberle (2G, plus the only conversion of the breakaway relay) helped Moose Jaw get the full two points off Eastern Division-leading Brandon with a 5-4 shootout win. The overage gave the Warriors the lead with his second goal with 14:06 to play off a pass from Team Canada camp-bound Brayden Point. Rookie Nolan Patrick scored to give the Wheat Kings the regulation tie before Eberle decided it in Round 4 of the shootout.

Potent notables — Payton Lee had a 29-save shutout for Vancouver in a 3-0 win over Prince Albert ... Sixteen-year-old Dillon Dube (2G-1A, +3) was in on all of the Kelowna Rockets' goal in a 4-3 shootout decision over Lethbridge ... Gabe Guertler (2G-1A, +2) led Sault Ste. Marie past Plymouth in the lone OHL game ... Alexis Loiseau (2G-1A, +2) led Rimouski to a 7-2 road win over Sherbrooke.
