Rookie Magyar nets two as Kitchener stuns Soo: Sunday’s 3 Stars

No. 1 star: Nick Magyar, Kitchener Rangers (OHL)

Where did this come from? The Rangers came into Sunday's matchup with Sault Ste. Marie in last place in the Western Conference, and sported the worst offence in the entire league.

Somehow, the Rangers exploded against the Greyhounds, scoring six goals in the final two periods to come from behind to win 6-3. Kitchener shelled Soo with 51 shots on goal, but still needed a late penalty shot and an empty-netter to put the game away.

Magyar, the 17-year-old rookie from Ohio, scored two power-play goals in the second period to keep the Rangers in the game, as the Greyhounds still led 3-2 after Magyar's second tally.

Magyar then assisted on Ryan MacInnis's goal in the third period that gave Kitchener its first lead at 4-3, and Brent Pedersen's converted penalty shot gave the Rangers some breathing room. Kitchener earned its seventh win in 20 games this season, while Soo dropped its second straight in regulation after starting out 16-2-0-2.

No. 2 star: Spencer Watson, Kingston Frontenacs (OHL)

The 17-year-old who could be taken in the first round of the 2014 NHL draft, scored twice and added two assists as the struggling Frontenacs took out their frustrations on hapless Ottawa, pounding the 67's 8-0. Kingston had lost five of six games in November coming in, and needed something good to happen.

The 17-year-old from London picked up three of his points in a three-minute span in the second period that saw Kingston push its lead from 2-0 to 5-0.

New Jersey Devils draftee Ryan Kujwainski chipped in with two goals and an assist for the Fronts, who pushed Ottawa's winless streak to six games.

No. 3 star: Chris Driedger, Calgary Hitmen (WHL)

The 19-year-old goaltender, whose numbers have dropped off a bit this year after a great 2012-13 season, made big saves down the stretch to preserve a 3-2 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Driedger followed up a 37-save performance in a shootout win over Swift Current on Friday by making 30 saves Sunday. Clinging to a one-goal lead in the third period, he stopped Torrin White on a breakaway and made another spectacular save to deny Sam Fioretti's attempt to equalize.

Not only did Driedger pick up the win, he was also awarded a championship belt by franchise founder Bret "The Hitman" Hart for his performance.
