Everett's Carson Stadnyk, Oshawa's Tobias Lindberg net natural hat tricks: Friday's 3 Stars

No. 1 star: Carson Stadnyk, Everett Silvertips (WHL)

The 19-year-old Stadnyk got his Bill Mosienko on during the first 4½ minutes of the third period, scoring a natural hat trick to turn a one-goal deficit into a lead as 'Tips won 5-1 against Spokane in Game 1 of their U.S. Division semifinal. Spokane, which lost its last five games of the regular season, had a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.

Then Stadnyk (3G-1A, +2) awesomed all over the place. The Saskatoon native scored 17 seconds into the frame off a setup from Dawson Leedahl. Stadnyk then scored twice while his line was matched up against 87-point scorer Adam Helewka, scoring unassisted at 1:34 and 4:03. Stadnyk also picked up an assist on Ivan Nikolishin's power-play goal with 8:29 remaining, as Everett finished the game with a strong statement.

Liam Stewart scored the lone Spokane goal.

No. 2 star: Tobias Lindberg, Oshawa Generals (OHL)

Lindberg had merely the second-fastest natural hat trick on the night, taking five minutes 28 seconds (compared to Stadnyk's 3:48) to score thrice in succession during the Generals' 7-2 win over the Peterborough Petes.

Lindberg (3G-1A, +2), an Ottawa Senators fourth-round pick who was the highest-scoring first-year import in major junior with 78 points in 67 regular-season games, scored 9:45 into the first. The Stockholm native then buried on consecutive Generals power plays to help Oshawa get control of the game early.

No. 3 star: Brandon Magee, Victoria Royals (WHL)

Magee (3G-1A, +4) also scored three goals in one period, helping the Royals go from two down after 20 minutes to two up after 40 in an eventual 5-3 win over the Prince George Cougars in Game 1 of their B.C. Division semi-final. The overage forward nearly matched his career playoff goal output in one night, scoring goals 60 seconds apart in the second and again in the final 90 seconds of the frame. Magee also assisted on the empty-net clincher.

Honourable mention: Joey Richard, Gatineau Olympiques (QMJHL)

Richard (1G-3A, +4), the Maritimer manning left wing on the 'Piques production line with Russians Yakov Trenin and Valentin Zykov, was in on all the scoring during a 4-1 win over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in the opener of the Hwy. 50 series. The Dieppe, N.B., native assisted on a goal from Zykov (1G-1A, +4) just 32 seconds into the game. Richard also had an assist on the 2-0 tally from Trenin (1G-2A, +4). Overage goalie François Brassard (34 saves) kept the Armada at bay for the rest of the night and Richard buried the dagger with 1:49 left in the game, while also assisting on an empty-netter.

Potent notables — New Jersey Devils first-rounder John Quenneville (1G-3A, +3) led Brandon to an 8-1 series-tying Game 2 win over Edmotnon ... In other WHL series openers, Luke Philp (2G-1A, +2) led the wild-card Kootenay Ice to a 4-3 Game 1 road win over Central Division champ Calgary ... San Jose Sharks pick Rourke Chartier (2G-1A, +3) led Kelowna to a 6-0 win over Tri-City ... In the OHL, Ottawa Senators prospect Nick Paul scored two goals in North Bay's 8-0 shutout against Kingston. Devils prospect Ryan Kujawinski scored two against his old team ... In the QMJHL, 14 Charlottetown Islanders recorded a point during an eight-goal second period in an 8-2 win at Sherbrooke. Daniel Sprong (2G) and Spenser Cobbold (2G, +2) each tallied twice during the onslaught ... Winnipeg Jets prospect Nikolaj Ehlers (3A, +1) led Halifax to a 3-2 Game 1 road win over Shawinigan ... Goalie Alexandre Bélanger had 25 saves and an assist to help 13th-seeded Cape Breton scored a 3-2 Game 1 road win over Quebec,
