No. 1 star: Kyle Platzer, Owen Sound Attack (OHL)

The Edmonton Oilers fourth-rounder scored a natural hat trick in a six-minute, two-second span of game time to help Owen Sound squelch the Barrie Colts' seven-win streak with a 4-3 win.

The 19-year-old Platzer (3G, +2) loosened his grip on his stick, figuratively, by ending his five-game goal drought when he drilled a shot by Mackenzie Blackwood with 27 seconds left in the first period, tying the game 1-1. The Colts took penalties 41 seconds apart early in the second period. Seconds after the first penalty expired, Platzer received a feed from Daniel Milne (1G-1A, +1) and beat Colts goalie Mackenzie Blackwood shortside. Exactly 100 seconds later, Detroit Red Wings second-rounder Zach Nastasiuk rushed the puck deep into the Colts zone and pulled Blackwood out of position, which left Platzer with an easy tap-in for his hat trick. Milne followed up with a goal fewer than three minutes later, chasing Blackwood and giving the Attack a 4-1 lead.

New Jersey Devils signing Joseph Blandisi (2A) assisted both Colts third-period goals.

No. 2 star: Brandon Robinson, Kitchener Rangers (OHL)

Robinson (2G, +3) made a triumphant return to the North Bay Memorial Gardens, igniting the Rangers' to a bounce-back 5-1 road win over the host North Bay Battalion.

The 6-foot-3, 216-pound power winger has shown why he was a first-rounder of the Battalion in 2011, blossoming as a 20-goal scorer with a physical edge. Robinson put the Rangers by two goals midway through the second, taking a feed from Mike Davies and lifting  a shot over goalie and ex-teammate Jake Smith. The teams traded goals before the end of the period. Arizona Coyotes second-rounder Ryan MacInnis (2G, +4) struck for Kitchener before Ottawa Senators signing Nick Paul, who's reportedly lost 10 pounds over the past week while battling the flu, restored the Battalion's hopes with a last-minute tally.

Early in the third, Adam Mascherin (2A, +3) carried deep into North Bay's zone and was poke-checked. Robinson swooped in and beat Smith for the dagger goal. That was Robinson's 23rd on the season, just one fewer than he had over the prior two seasons combined.

No. 3 star: Cam Darcy, Sherbrooke Phoenix (QMJHL)

Darcy (2G-1A, -1) was an open-ice opportunist, contributing two power-play points in regulation time before scoring 2:56 into overtime to give Sherbrooke a 4-3 win over the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. The Boston native drew a helper on David Storto's icebreaker just shy of the game's seven-minute mark and cashed in on a setup from NHL draft prospect Jérémy Roy (2A, +2) with 7:22 left in the third. That wasn't enough to secure the win, so Darcy, Montreal Canadiens pick Daniel Audette (3A, -1) and Roy simply collaborated for the winner. The goal was Darcy's 16th in 25 games with the Phoenix after the overage scored just once in 19 games for Cape Breton before being moved.

Potent notables — Peterborough's Matthew Mancina had his second shutout of the season, making 30 saves in the Petes' 3-0 win against Belleville ... Danick Martel scored his QMJHL-leading 46th goal during Blainville-Boisbriand's road win against Rouyn-Noranda ... Winnipeg Jets first-rounder Nikolaj Ehlers (2A, +1) extended his point streak to 31 games during Halifax's 4-3 shootout loss to Victoriaville. The Tigres' Angelo Miceli scored his 30th and converted during the breakaway contest.
