No. 1 star: Dylan Sadowy, Saginaw Spirit

The eighth-place Spirit are likely in sell mode, which means it's auspicious to have their top 18-year-old, Sadowy, score his first OHL hat trick during a 7-4 holiday getaway win over the Windsor Spitfires. Sadowy (3G-1A, +2) had a response goal during the first period with a move in off the wing punctuated by a first shot. The Woodbridge, Ont., native also had a power-play assist before the period was out.

As so often happens in a game between young teams, the goals were traded freely. The Spirit broke out on top to stay with goals 35 seconds apart in the first minute and a half of the third, with Sadowy opening a 6-4 lead off a setup from 16-year-old Tye Felhaber. That gave the San Jose Sharks third-rounder his seventh career two-goal game and he completed the hatty with a short-handed snipe.

No. 2 star: Spencer Martin, Mississauga Steelheads

Really, it could have been Missy's Martin and the Belleville Bulls' Charlie Graham sharing the first star of the spot after they combined for a double shutout in the Steelheads' 1-0 shootout victory. Martin, a 19-year-old Colorado Avalanche signing who has stolen more than his share of his games during his three seasons as the Steelheads' starter, withstood a 16-shot peppering in the opening 20 minutes, robbing Bulls forward Matt Luff on an early chance where a goal might have given the Bulls momentum. The Oakville, Ont., native finished with 41 saves in the game, then kicked out all three shootout tries while Jimmy Lodge became the only player to put a puck in the net when he converted in the third round.

Graham had 36 saves for the Bulls. It was Martin's first shutout since Feb. 23.

No. 3 star: Justin Nichols, Guelph Storm

Nichols was also stingy, making a season-most 48 saves in Guelph's 4-3 overtime win against the Erie Otters in a rare OHL Saturday matinee. The short-staffed Storm got a lift from Jason Dickinson electing to play just hours after being cut from Team Canada, while Nichols kicked out 18 first-period shots to help the Storm build a lead. The 19-year-old goaltender also kicked up his concentration a notch in the third period, stopping 16-of-17 to keep Erie at bay and get the Storm into a 4-on-4 session, where they prevailed on a strike from overage Chris Marchese.

Nichols has been having a great month, with a 2.59 average and .924 save percentage across eight starts.

Honourable mention: Brendan Lemieux, Barrie Colts

Six goals in two games is a very good week. Lemieux (2G-1A, +3, and a couple double minors) factored in all scoring as the Colts buckled down for a 3-1 win over the Ottawa 67's. The teams were deadlocked when the Buffalo Sabres second-rounder redirected Ramsus Andersson's shot for the winner and his 25th of the season with 8:27 left. Lemieux also jimmied the puck loose in the last minute and set up captain Joseph Blandisi (1G-2A, +3) for the empty-net clincher.
