McDavid had the honour of wearing the Otters’ “super suit” after their 5-2 victory over the Plymouth Whalers because of his superb four-point effort. The Newmark, Ont., native kicked off the game with a monstrous first period. He not only assisted markers from Nick Betz (1G-1A, +4) and Alex DeBrincat (1G-1A, +4), but he also sniped a short-handed goal at the 10:19 mark after going through a pair of Plymouth defenders. He went on to score his second of the night with under three minutes left in the game to dash any of the Whalers’ dreams of a last minute comeback.

McDavid is ultimately in a league of his own in the OHL. He has scored at least one point in all 13 of his games and has 13 goals and 38 points on the year. The icing on the cake of his amazing start to his draft year is that he currently has a better points-per-game pace than Sidney Crosby’s 2004-05 season with the Rimouski Oceanic. McDavid sits at a 2.92 average while Crosby finished his draft year with a 2.71 average.

No. 2 Star: Greg Betzold, Peterborough Petes (OHL)

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Betzold notched his first hat trick of his major junior career in a 4-3 win over the Mississauga Steelheads. After scoring the first marker of the game just 2:18 into the first period, the 19-year-old winger scored back-to-back goals within the first 11 minutes of the final frame to give the Petes a two-goal lead.

Buffalo Sabres prospect Eric Cornel posted an assist on all three of Betzold’s goals. Matthew Mancina, meanwhile, held his own in between the pipes with 19 saves on 20 shots.

No. 3 Star: Jackson Whistle, Kelowna Rockets (WHL)

Whistle posted his second shutout in three games with a 29-save effort against the Portland Winterhawks. His best period came right off the bat as he turned away 15 pucks throughout the first 20 minutes. The Kelowna, B.C., native’s perfect game included shutting down all six of the Winterhawks’ chances on the man advantage.

Nashville Predators prospect Justin Kirkland (1G-2A, +2), San Jose Sharks prospect Rourke Chartier (2G, +2) and Austin Glover (3A, +2) led the Rockets on the score sheet in the 5-0 affair.

Honourable mention: Charlie Graham, Belleville Bulls (OHL)

With a 48-save performance, Graham stood on his head in the blue paint to lead the Bulls to a 3-2 victory over the North Bay Battalion. His best effort came in the five minutes of extra time as he stopped 10 shots while his club only put one puck on Jake Smith at the other end of the ice. The Toronto native proceeded by turning away eight of 11 pucks in the shootout to ensure the win.

The Bulls’ Jordan Subban (1G, +1) and the Battalion’s Brenden Miller (1G-1A) stood out on their respective team’s back ends for their offensive production.

Honourable mention: Josh Ho-Sang, Windsor Spitfires (OHL)

The New York Islanders first-round pick was a playmaking machine against the Kingston Frontenacs. He helped setup four of his teammates to lift his club to a 4-3 win. Following notching assists on goals from Trevor Murphy and Ryan Moore in the opening frame, he set up markers from Cristiano DiGiacinto and Sam Povorozniouk in the third period.

Potent notables: Adam Marsh (2G, +1) helped lift the Saint John Sea Dogs over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the 6-5 affair… Ottawa 67’s forward Trent Mallette scored twice in his club’s 4-1 win over the Niagara IceDogs… Tampa Bay Lightning first-round pick Anthony DeAngelo (1G-2A, +1) led the Sarnia Sting to a 7-1 victory against the Barrie Colts… solid efforts from Matthew Barzal (1G-1A, +2) and Lane Pederson (2G, +2) led the Seattle Thunderbirds to knock off the Edmonton Oil Kings 5-2.
