Belleville Bulls string up Steelheads in Game 5: OHL post-game questions

Overage defenceman Stephen Silas snipes two goals as the Belleville Bulls right things with a 5-0 Game 5 shutout of the Mississauga Steelheads. On with the post-game questions:

Belleville 5 Mississauga 0 (Bulls lead 3-2) — Has there ever been a bigger homer series? The biggest yeah-but blocking predictions that top-seeded Belleville will finish off the Fish on Monday is that the home teams have won all five games by an aggregate 24-5 (8-1, 4-1 and 5-zip in Bellevegas; 2-1 and 5-2 in Missy). On paper, Belleville should take out Mississauga, which has extracted quite a bit from a young lineup.

The reason the series was even through four games was that Belleville squandered an early two-goal lead in Game 4 on Tuesday. Saturday, it didn't repeat the mistake following tallies by Silas and Vancouver Canucks prospect Brendan Gaunce (unofficially at 19:59.9) late in the first.

"The second period's kind of been a nightmare for us in their barn," Silas told TV Cogeco Belleville, referring to Game 6. "That's something we have to clean up."

Belleville was in control for the full 60. Boston Bruins prospects watchers are likely tweeting out at this very second that Malcolm Subban had a 29-save shutout; in truth, Mississauga had maybe one Grade-A chance, which Subban handled easily with a glove save. But to finish the point, this series has taken a big shift each time it's changed arenas.

Mississauga must come back with Tyson Teichmann in goal for Game 6 on Monday, correct? The 19-year-old was lifted after allowing four goals on 18 shots in 27 minutes 45 seconds of action, with 17-year-old NHL draft prospect Spencer Martin mopping up.

Teichmann was integral in helping Mississauga bank two wins against the heavily favoured Bulls and deserves another chance. He wasn't bad, by any stretch. The Bulls were simply better, as their play suggested clear evidence of having used the three days between games to work on taking shots that would generate fat rebounds; that's exactly how Detroit Red Wings pick Alan Quine and Winnipeg Jets choice Austen Brassard scored the third and fourth Bulls goals.

(Brassard and Quine were two of the veteran Bulls who were conspicuously quiet in games 3 and 4.)

There is a case that Missy coach-GM James Boyd could try to cross up Belleville by going back to Martin. However, the sophomore gave up eight goals in the series opener and, on Saturday, fought the puck on one innocuous-looking long wrister in the third) On Friday, the Brampton Battalion trusted a a must-win game against Sudbury to their 17-year-old goalie, Jake Smith, instead of their 19-year-old 'tender Matej Machovsky. The difference is Teichmann has had a more consistent series for Missy than Machovsky, who took himself out of a loss to the Wolves, was having for the Battalion.
