USC commit hurdles directly over standing defender on incredible TD run

Mission Hills (Calif.) Alemany High wide receiver Steven Mitchell is a U.S. Army All-American. He's also committed to play for USC, which gives an indication of just how highly he's thought of in Southern California and even across the nation.

Now, in a single play America can see precisely why Mitchell is considered such a promising prospect: He's so determined to get to the end zone that he doesn't let anything get in his way, even if the obstacle in question is a 6-foot tall defensive back.

As you can see above, when presented with a rather sizable deterrent to the end zone during a game, Mitchell decided to take the high road, with an emphasis on high. The Alemany senior channeled his inner Lolo Jones to launch himself directly over a stationary defender who apparently thought Mitchell would run right into him.

Obviously he didn't, and Pasadena paid the price as a team as a result.

Eventually, Mitchell would help lead Alemany to a 45-8 win, leading while lining up as a wide receiver, running back or any other role in which the Alemany coaching staff thought they might be able to sneak the football to the senior.

As for Mitchell himself, conversations with the wideout make it abundantly clear that he intended to make that leap, and a handful of other plays which have rapidly elevated the USC commit to the level of prep football urban legend.

"People tell me [an early season touchdown] looked like something Reggie Bush did back in the day," Mitchell told MaxPreps. "I think it looked like something Steven Mitchell did back in the day."
