Missouri sophomore pitches perfect game

A high school sophomore in Missouri pitched the best game of his career last week. Really, there's no way to top it: It was perfect.

The Jefferson City Jays jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first to give their ace a slight cushion. Jacob Weirich took over from there, striking out 11, including the last batter he faced, to secure the 3-0 win for Jefferson City High.

"I'm lost for words. In 15 years of doing this I've never seen a perfect game," his coach told local station KRCG.

“It was moving up and down, in and out, it was all over the place in the strike zone,” Weirich told the Jefferson City News Tribune. “I like throwing the fastball, then getting them with the curveball. …I tried to not think about it, I just wanted to throw strikes.”

Mission accomplished. Of the 80 pitches he threw, 52 were strikes.

“He’s deceiving,” his coach added. “He throws with enough velocity and has command of his fastball and change-up. He just knows how to pitch.”
