John Stockton on coaching his daughter's team at H.S. Nationals

NBA Hall of Famer John Stockton traveled to Middle Village, New York, this week to help coach his daughter's team in the DICKS Sporting Goods High School Nationals. Laura Stockton is a senior at Gonzaga Prep (Spokane, Wash.)

Having the former Utah Jazz star on the bench didn't help the Bullpups advance to the title – the team fell 60-59 to Miami Country Day in the semifinals on Friday – but nonetheless, the proud dad said it was, "one of the greatest experiences of my life.”

“I don’t know if coaching girls is always like this, but this group has been amazing,” Stockton said, according to USA Today. “They’ve been completely open to coaching and they all really want to learn. And they aren’t afraid to put the hard work in to get better.”

Laura will play at Gonzaga next year. Stockton raved about having the opportunity to share the experience with her.

“(Laura) is really special,” he said. “Obviously I’m going to say that as a proud Dad, but she really is. She’s a special player, she’s a special person. And we’ve been able to do a lot of things together, a lot of memories on the court, a lot of long car trips to little towns in Washington. It’s been great.”

It's hard to imagine the coaches at Gonzaga would deny him the chance to at least help out at a few practices, should he want to keep making memories on the court.
